Based on the available historical data, current area of the experiment station Šašinovec in 1917 belonged to part of Zagreb called Kaptol, and were named as “South Kašina”. During 1919 Kaptol sold the area to the Faculty of Agronomy and remain in its property till 1947 when Farmers’ Cooperative took over the area. With the disintegration of Farmers’ Cooperative the area was assigned to the RO “Sljeme“. Afterwards the area was used by the Agricultural Station Sesvete and Croatian Agricultural Centre, whose legal successor from 1994 was the Croatian Livestock Centre.

According to the decision of the Croatian Government on 11 July 2007 the experiment station Šašinovec was assigned to the Faculty of Agriculture.

The experiment station Šašinovec has 7 employees and manages 76.8 ha of arable land. The majority of the area is many cultivated with following crops: winter and spring wheat seeds, winter and spring barley seeds, oat, corn seeds, soybean, fodder peas and other field crops. The experiment station has seed processing unit where 300 – 500 tons of seeds are processed and packed per year. Beyond the seed production, the experiment station has experiment plots for the recognition of new cultivars – agricultural hybrid crops. Besides mentioned, experiment plots are set up for the needs of certain Departments of the Faculty of Agriculture as well as for the needs of some private companies. The experiment station is also used for student traineeship education and the results of experiments are used for scientific papers.
