Department of Pomology
The Maksimir experiment station has been active since 1997, when the first mother blocks of vegetative rootstocks were planted and seedlings of domestic and introduced genotypes of different fruit species were planted with the aim of establishing a collection and experimental plantation. The area of the plantation is about 0.5 ha, and currently about 30 varieties of pears, 40 varieties of apples, 50 varieties of cherries, 10 varieties of plums and several specimens of other fruit species such as blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, apricots, elderberries, goji and other fruit species and their crossbreeds.
The experiment station is intended primarily for teaching needs where teachers from several departments and undergraduate and graduate students from different orientations can observe the phenological phases of fruit species, learn about cutting techniques, propagation methods and pomological properties of fruit species and monitor the occurrence of diseases and pests on different fruit species. Plant material from the Experiment station is also used for laboratory exercises as well as for various activities that promote the activities of the Department of Pomology Faculty of Agriculture (Pomology Group, Faculty Open Day, Plant Enchantment Day, Science Festival, etc.).
