Laboratory for genetic identification of domestic animals
History
Basic activities of the Department are teaching, scientific research and technical work in the field of animal production. However, teaching on the undergraduate, graduate, specialist and postgraduate studies is a significant part of the activities of the Department’s staff, as well as rich scientific and technical activities in the field of domestic animal breeding, protection and conservation of autochthonous animal breeds, production technology of meat, milk, wool, mushrooms, and production of semi-durable and durable meat products. Extensive and rich technical activity (consulting, seminars, lectures and other) is aimed towards improvement of overall animal production, standardization, recognition and protection of autochthonous products (Istrian cured ham, Istrian cattle meat, lamb meat of the Pag Sheep and Dalmatian pramenka breeds etc.) That’s why Laboratory for genetic identification of domestic animals is very important. Through more than 20 projects financed by Ministry of science, education and sports, Ministry of agriculture, forestry and rural development, regional associations and economic subjects numerous scientific and technical researches were done in order to improve different fields of animal production in Croatia.
Employees of the Department are the active participants of the numerous scientific and technical meetings in the country and abroad. They are members of Breeding Programs’ Councils and Commissions for livestock evaluation on different exhibitions and fairs, and different domestic and foreign societies, editorial boards of scientific and technical journals. One of the departments’ employees is National coordinator of Republic Croatia at FAO for animal genetic resources conservation.
The Department employs a total of 17 people of which 13 are in the scientific teaching position: professor emeritus Vesna Pavić Ph.D., full professor Boro Mioč Ph.D., full professor Ante Ivanković Ph.D., associate professor Zoran Luković Ph.D., assistant professor Miljenko Konjačić Ph.D., assistant professor Jelena Ramljak Ph.D., assistant professor Ivica Kos Ph.D., assistant professor Ivan Vnučec Ph.D., assistant professor Zvonimir Prpić Ph.D., assistant professor Ivan Širić Ph. D., assistant professor Nikolina Kelava Ugarković Ph.D., assistant professor Ana Kaić Ph.D., assistant professor Dubravko Škorput Ph.D., senior assistant Ante Kasap Ph.D. and assistant Valentino Držaić, M.Sc.
Administrative, laboratory, technical and assisting personnel are Marija Gadža and Kristina Židovec.
