Teaching activities
Mathematics as a scientific-educational discipline occurs in the early 60s, and Informatics in the late 80s; initially exclusively in the educational part; later with the establishment of the Department of Mathematics, and in 1998 the Department of Informatics and Mathematics strengthened these fields in scientific research. Specific areas in mathematics are mathematical analysis and applied mathematics, statistics, and in the field of informatics aspects of computerization of the Croatian Agricultural System, and information and communication technology.
Scientific and research activities
In scientific-educational and scientific-research terms, the department has the task of promoting relevant knowledge in information and mathematical sciences for agriculture purposes. This task is reflected in the implementation of IT scientific-educational and scientific research units, in accordance with the goals and needs of agriculture.
The main areas of scientific and professional research are: information technology revolution, information science – communication, development of computer systems, informatics in agriculture and electronic bussines.
In the field of mathematics, scientific interest is focused on model theory and functional analysis, mathematical analysis and applied mathematics and statistics.
History
The Department of Informatics and Mathematics was founded on 14 February 1998, with the merger of the Mathematics Cabinet and the Computer Science Cabinet. Scientific and teaching activities in the field of mathematics at our Faculty have been conducted for several decades with different thematic content and scope, and the main goal is to acquire/promote certain mathematical knowledge relevant for the development of Croatian agriculture.
Scientific and teaching activities in the field of informatics and information and communication sciences began to take place at our Faculty in 1990, in the context of efficient education for our students in this field.
