Laboratory for testing grain moisture analyzers for moisture contents of grains of cereals and oilseeds

Grain Moisture Analyzers Laboratory of the Department of Agricultural Technology, Storage and Transport

It was founded in 1986 at the Institute of Mechanization, Technology and Construction in Agriculture of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (FPZ) as a service laboratory for technical tests, type approvals and calibrations, legally prescribed measuring accuracy (correctness) and validation for the Federal Institute for Measures and Precious Metals, Control of Measures Zagreb. The leader of the activities related to the work of the Laboratory was Stjepan Pliestić. Following the reorganization and change of the Faculty’s name, as well as the independence of the Republic of Croatia, by the Decision of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Informatics of the Republic of Croatia (class: 053-01 / 92-01 / 20, no: 533-04 / 1-92-2), on 26 April 1992. it becomes the first and at that time the only confirmed Laboratory for calibration of moisture meters for cereal grains and oilseeds of the Republic Institute for Standardization and Metrology. By the decision of the head of the Department of Agricultural Technology, Storage and Transport of the Faculty of Agriculture prof. dr. sc. Zvonko Katić, on 18 April 1992. Stjepan Pliestić was appointed Head of the Laboratory, and he hold this title up to this day. Pursuant to the Decision of the State Bureau of Metrology (class: UP / I-960-03 / 05-05 / 123; reg. no: 558-03 / 11-05-2), dated 16 December 2005, the Laboratory becomes an authorized service no. 113, and the Laboratory is currently in the status of a professional expert laboratory for expertise.

The employees of the Laboratory wrote the first official documents in Croatia about moisture analyters (meters): Instructions for the procedure in the inspection of moisture analyzers (meters) for cereal grains and oilseeds, Gradual in the inspection of moisture analyzers (meters)  for cereal grains and oilseeds, and participated in the drafting of the Ordinance on technical and metrological requirements for the authorization of the service for the preparation of moisture analyzers (meters)  for cereal grains and oilseeds for certification. During its existence, the Laboratory has annually inspected, tested and moderately fifty analyzers (meters) of most types used in the Republic of Croatia and the EU.

The laboratory, in addition to performing the work of a professional expert laboratory for expertise, also serves as an educational laboratory for students and users from the economy.
