Laboratory for bee products analysis and bee biology
Laboratory of the Department of Fisheries, Apiculture, Wildlife Management and Special Zoology
The Laboratory work areas include the following analyses and laboratory testing:
- melissopalynological (pollen) analysis of honey
- physico-chemical analyses of honey (determination of water content, electrical conductivity, pH value)
- determination of hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in honey by UV / VIS spectroscopy
- sensory analysis of honey
- beeswax analysis: authenticity testing - qualitative and quantitative detection of adulterants in beeswax by infrared (IR) spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR technique); physico-chemical analyses (determination of melting point, specific gravity, and acid number)
- chemical characterization of bee products by FTIR-ATR spectroscopy
- analysis of honey bee hemolymph
The analysis of other honey bee products (royal jelly, propolis, bee pollen, bee venom) and other biological samples is being carried out according to the teaching and scientific/research requirements of the Department.
