Laboratory of Soil Microbiology

Laboratory of the Department of Microbiology

The activity of this Laboratory includes polyphasic investigations of microbial communities present in different soil types. In out investigations the methods dependent on the cultivation of microorganisms on selective media and methods independent of cultivation, which are based on direct isolation of DNA from the soil and next generation sequencing (NGS), are used. Soil microbiological analyzes are mainly aimed at assessing the biogenicity and presence of the most important physiological groups, which includes determining the total number of microorganisms, bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and the presence of ammonifiers, nitrifiers, aerobic cellulolytic microorganisms and asymbiotic nitrogen fixatives.

This Laboratory also studies microbial enzymatic activity in the soil, and in addition to soil analysis, microbiological analyzes of various organic fertilizers and growth biostimulators are performed.

Head of the laboratory: Sanja Kajić, PhD
