Laboratory of nematology

Laboratory of the Department of Agricultural Zoology

In the Laboratory of nematology, activities related to teaching (exercises) and activities related to scientific research and professional projects take place. For research purposes, soil and plant samples are collected in the field and prepared and analyzed in the Laboratory for the presence of plant parasitic nematodes. Based on the established presence, abundance and identification of plant parasitic nematodes in soil and plant samples, appropriate recommendations for the control of harmful nematode species in agricultural crops are made, as well as conclusions important for scientific research.

The Laboratory is equipped with an Oostenbrink device for isolating free-living nematodes and a Spears flotation device for extracting cyst nematodes from soil samples. In recent years, the Laboratory has been conducting the determination of the presence of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in agricultural soils. The purpose of the research is to determine the autochthonous species and strains of EPNs that could be used in the biological control of harmful insect species.

Head of the laboratory: Prof. Dinka Grubišić, PhD
