The Organic Fruit Growing module programme enables students to acquire knowledge in the field of organic fruit growing technology. This module provides students with knowledge of economically important pome, stone, nut and berry fruit species. Native species involved in the creation of rootstocks and varieties are also covered.
In lectures and exercises, students acquire knowledge of ecological factors for cultivation, biological characteristics of species, varieties and rootstocks, as well as the basics of the physiology of growth and yield of fruit trees.
Each part of the programme includes the following units: Production in the world and in Croatia, botanical affiliation, ecological factors of production, flowering and fertilisation, cultivation technology - rootstocks, assortment and forms of cultivation. The programme parts of the module are as follows:
1) Basics of fruit growing
2) Basics of organic fruit growing
3) Pome fruit species (Pomoideae): apple, pear, quince, medlar and rowan
4) Stone fruit species (Prunoideae): plum, cherry, sour cherry, apricot, peach and nectarine
5) Nuts and berry fruit species: hazelnut, walnut, chestnut, strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, currant
