Prepared and presented seminar essay

Opis

In agreement with the teacher, the students choose the topics of the seminar work. They prepare the written material and present it verbally, mostly with the accompanying ppt presentation.

Opće kompetencije

Basic knowledge and understanding of agri-environmental law and policy allow students to solve administrative and organizational problems in contemporary agribusiness and policy decision making. Students are competent for analytical work, critical thinking, independent and also team work.

  1. Overview of the course L - Introduction to natural resource issues within regional/national economy, terminology, processes and the role of government and interest groups, research methods and source materials.
  2. Natural resources: natural, economic and public values L - Natural characteristics and economic value of resources; use in agricultural and other activities in rural areas; definition of public values and critical judgement in natural and social context
  3. Resource use and conservation philosophy, attitudes underlying laws and policies (historical atitudes), L - Explaining historical background of different approaches to natural resource utilisation; extreme cases in resources use (abandoning, over-utilisation), ownership issues . Evolution of EU agri-environmental laws and policies.
  4. Land law and policy L - Land as a primary resource in rural economy. Land policy in different political and economic systems. A case presentation from chosen EU country.
  5. Agricultural land and agricultural activities, competing with non-agricultural land use L - Contemporary land legislation regarding utilisation, protection and management in relation to non-agricultural (competing and complementary) activities. (Theory and case study research.)
  6. Water law and policy L - New role of water in rural economy. Water policy in time. Water as agricultural production factor - a case study from chosen EU country. Water as a production factor in agriculture L - Contemporary water legislation regarding utilisation, protection and management. (Theory and case study research.)
  7. Natural resource conservation and agricultural policy S - Students' research in different cases of conservation policies.
  8. Wildlife: hunting, fishing, trapping and other consumptive uses of wildlife - interference with human activities S - Students' research and case studies
