U okviru nacionalnog programa stipendiranja međunarodne suradnje (National grant: “Wielkopolska Regional Initiative of Excellence in the field of life sciences of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań"), dr. Tomkowiak i dr. Kurasiak-Popowska u posjetu su Zavodu za oplemenjivanje bilja, genetiku i biometriku Sveučilišta  Zagrebu Agronomskog fakulteta te će prema programu održati po jedno predavanje u utorak 28. rujna 2021. u Velikoj vijećnici (prizemlje paviljona VI) s početkom u 11.00 h.

  • 11.00 - Agnieszka Tomkowiak, Ph.D:  The use of biotechnology in plant breeding
  • 11.30  - Danuta Kurasiak-Popowska, Ph.D.: The use of genetic engineering in agriculture and plant breeding

Agnieszka Tomkowiak is a researcher and lecturer in the department of Genetics and Plant Breeding at the Poznań University of Life Sciences. 2007 PhD in agricultural sciences, the Poznań University of Life Science. Scientific activity concerns the phenomenon of crop heterosis and molecular diagnostics, including the search for and identification of fungal disease resistance genes. Currently, as part of basic research, I analyze the expression of fungal disease resistance genes at the mRNA and miRNA level in wheat and the search for molecular markers for quantitative traits as a result of association mapping in maize. My application research is related to the introduction of genes conditioning resistance to diseases caused by pathogenic fungi into cereal crops. I am the principal investigator of a research project financed by the National Science Center and in the years 2009-2019, I participated in the implementation of eight other scientific projects (NCBiR, MRiRW). I am the co-author of 64 scientific publications. I am the supervisor in two doctoral dissertation. As an academic lecturer, I teach courses in plant genetics, genetic engineering, agrobiotechnology, and resistance breeding. I also lecture in English on the subject: Biotechnology research and environmental sciences.

Danuta Kurasiak-Popowska is a researcher and lecturer in the department of Genetics and Plant Breeding at the Poznań University of Life Sciences. 2005 PhD in agricultural sciences, the Poznań University of Life Science. Areas of scientific interest: genetic analysis of Camelina, resources and creative breeding of new varieties of this species (co-author of 2 varieties of Camelina sativa submitted to National Plant Breeders’ Rights in Poland in 2018 and 2019), quantitative and qualitative analysis of profiles of bioactive compounds from camelina seeds and oil, analysis of soybean germplasm biodiversity, identification of allelic systems of photoneutrality and earliness in soybean, cereal resistance for fungal diseases.
