Gostujuće predavanje :: Impact of metal nanoparticles on organisms

Pozivamo Vas na predavanja pod naslovom “Impact of metal nanoparticles on organisms“ koje će održati Assoc. Prof. Anna Gorczyca, University of Agriculture in Krakow, Poljska.

Predavanje će se održati u utorak, 24. svibnja 2022. u Maloj vijećnici s početkom u 12:00 h.

Predavanje je organizirano od strane Zavoda za fitopatologiju i Ureda za međunarodne odnose.

Lecture - short description
Assoc. Prof. Anna Gorczyca is a visiting professor at the University of Zagreb in the framework of The CEEPUS network: Resilient management of bioactive compounds from plants and organic wastes in Middle-Europe.

She will present a second public lecture, as part of an internship, titled Impact of metal nanoparticles on organisms.

Outline of lecture: The applications and benefits of nanotechnology in the agricultural, food and other sectors are now established as a matter of fact, but scientists still have a problem to properly acknowledge the influence of nanocompounds on the environment. We are starting to use some nanomaterials, but the effects they have on organisms in the environment can be diverse in nature – ranging from the beneficial to the harmful. Lecture will be presented some toxicological aspects of noble metal nanomaterials (special silver nanoparticles) on organisms such as bacteria, fungi, microalgae and plants. Also will be shown the importance of some nanoparticles properties for mode of their actions on organisms.

Short curriculum vitae
Assoc. Prof. Anna Gorczyca earned her MSc in Plant protection (emphasis in Nematology) and her Ph.D. in Agronomy (emphasis in Mycology) at the University of Agriculture in Krakow, Poland. After completion of her degree, she joined the Department of Microbiology and Biomonitoring (formerly the Department of Agricultural Environment Protection) at the Faculty of Agriculture and Economics, UAK. She held a post-doctoral position and she started her research on the impact of nanocompounds on plants, microalgae and phytopatogenic fungi and other plant pathogens. After habilitation, in 2015, Dr. Anna Gorczyca was hired as Assoc. Prof. of the UAK. She remained active in research collaborating in several research projects (toxicological aspect of nanotechnology, use of waste for fertilization purposes, potential of plants compounds in plant protection) with colleagues from the Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and the Franciszek Górski Institute of Plant Physiology Polish Academy of Sciences. She has authored and co-authored over 70 refereed papers, two chapters in books regarding biological plant protection and nanotechnology. She is a technical auditor at the Polish Centre for Accreditation in the Integrated Plant Production program. She is the representative of the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Economics for Promotion.
